Cleaning Tips

I attended the Blue Ridge Conference a few months back and Angela Hunt taught a number of classes. I bet you wouldn’t guess that she taught a class on organizational tips! Well she did. I didn’t go to it since I had a conflict, but my roommate, Laura Polk, did. She took awesome notes and emailed them to me. Well, the number one tip that I implemented immediately was on organizing cleaning tasks. Do you feel like you reinvent the wheel every week or month? Wracking your brain to figure out what needs to be cleaned, not wanting to wait for the filth to pile up?

Recipe card boxPurchase:

  • a recipe card box
  • index cards with months at the top
  • index cards with numbers (1 – 31) at the top
  • plain index cards.

Index CardsLabel the plain index cards with each task you do and the frequency it needs to be done on the top right side.

Each day, do what is in the box for the day.

Your house will stay clean and you won’t have to worry about when the air filters need to be changed because it’s all in the box!

Note : I clean on Saturday’s. So I ended up using a “week one”, “week two” . . . instead of 1 -31 for the days. Now, I pull out my index cards on Saturday morning and clean away. When I am done with a task, I refile the card into another week or into the next month (if it was a monthly task). You can add all sorts of things to these index cards. I have when the exterior windows need to be cleaned. I also have a note for when shower liners need to be laundered.

Hope this helps you in your cleaning endeavors!
