Exercise or diet or what?

The new year is approaching. Do you have a resolution related to exercising and/or diet? I used to be a Jazzercise instructor for many years, but a couple of years ago I streamlined my life so that I’d have more time to write. One thing I did was resign from teaching. Shortly thereafter I had undiagnosed migraines. As soon as I felt better, I’d return to my life–Jazzercise–and the head pain started all over again. Once the migraines were diagnosed, I stopped attending Jazzercise because of the bright lights, loud music and jumping required. For a few years I enjoyed using the elliptical at our club, but since it wasn’t FUN, I wasn’t good about going regularly. Pretty much anything could interrupt me from working out. Well I’m back to Jazzercise (four months and counting) and it feels good to move my body again! What did I learn? Why am I posting this?

You can diet all you want, but if you are not exercising, the weight you lost will come back. And sometimes more will come back.

You can exercise all you want, but if you aren’t careful with your caloric intake you may not lose weight. But, all is not lost. Exercise is wonderful for the heart–can’t take that away. Exercise, as in weight work, strengthens your muscles and body.

My opinion? If you can only do one, chose exercise. If you regularly exercise, you’ll have a healthy heart, strengthened muscles, and since you will FEEL good, there is a chance you’ll be more careful with your food choices. Join me on January 8th when we’ll talk about exercise options!
