God is Sovereign

God is sovereign even though we are a fallen people. . . I was reading Genesis 27 the other day and I noticed something odd. In Genesis 22 Abraham offered Isaac, his only son, as a sacrifice to God. He didn’t know there’d be a ram in the thickets and that God would tell him at the last minutes STOP, use the ram instead. Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son. Wow. But then his only son, Isaac has these twins, Esau and Jacob. What a pair.  But God knew. God knows everything. Way before it happens. Esau was so hungry he gave Jacob his birthright for a meal (Gen 25:29-34)! His birthright for a meal. Yup. Can you believe it?

Now in Gen 25:23b, God alerted Rebekah and we assume Isaac that even though Esau was born first, Esau would serve Jacob. But in Gen 27 Isaac tried to usurp God’s will. He was old and wanted to give his firstborn (and favorite) his blessing. Even though he knew that was not God’s plan.

Well, you know the story. Rebekah helped Jacob receive the blessing from Isaac. The blessing Isaac thought he was giving Esau.

What can we learn from this? That God is sovereign even though we are a fallen people. His will will be done.

Is there something God has instructed you to do and you are not obeying Him? Let today be the day you begin to walk in obedience with Him.
