I’m finished with the Book of Genesis and I feel encouraged. Why? Because what happened in Genesis happens today! One of the reasons the book of Genesis may have been written is to give us encouragement? You may remember that God promised that Abraham would become a great and powerful nation(Gen 18:18,19)? Yet when Abraham and Sarah were in Gerar, he told everyone that Sarah was his sister (so no one would kill him (Gen 20:1,2)). He wasn’t always perfect. A comforting thought.
When Isaac went up the mountain with his father, Abraham, in Gen 22, he had to know that he was the sacrifice. Isaac climbed that mountain willingly. Yet when it came time to give his chosen child the blessing, he tried to usurp God’s will (see my previous blog post). Again, the human failure is a comfort.
Now, these may be examples of sinful men living in a sinful world. Saved, yet still sinful. Believers won’t be sinless until they meet their maker. And what a day that will be!
