Spiritual Thought – Practicing the presence of God

Recently I was at a Seminary wives fellowship, with Lucy Burggraff (Dr. Burggraff‘s wife) discussing the Presence of God. She named her talk before she knew there was a book entitled The Practice of the Presence of God (which I read a few years ago and absolutely loved).

She gave us a truth : Devotional time will never be easy. Deal with it by permeating your life with God. Every part, every day, every decision. Constantly be aware of His presence.

She then gave us practical helps:

  • This is your time with God so talk to Him.
  • Be jealous of your time in the Word.
  • Read the Word systematically (book by book, not a chapter here and there)
  • Meditate on the things you read
  • Prayer time should include—praise, confession, thankfulness and petitions.

I have used a devotional Bible by Max Lucado. I love this Bible because you read Bible text and then a short devotional about that text that is personalized. I have also read the Bible in a year through one of the many reading plans out there.

Did that help? Be jealous of your time with God . . . Yes, that helps me! How about you?
