Book Review : Swept Away by Nicole O’Dell

Swept Away is a compilation of two books–High Stakes and Essence of Lilly. These YA novels by Nicole O’Dell are interactive stories, with two endings for each book. These novels are an awesome series for young adults 🙂

Back cover copy : In High Stakes, seniors and best friends, Amber and Brittany, are neck and neck in a good-natured com- petition for a car being given away by a local business. In Essence of Lilly, sophomore Lilly Armstrong is always looking for ways to escape the confines of her unhappy home. She “invents” youth group activi- ties just so she can hang out with her boyfriend, Jason—the only one in Lilly’s life who makes her feel special. What happens when Amber and Lilly are faced with making difficult choices? How will they handle the risky business? Readers help Amber and Lilly make the difficult decisions and see how their choices create consequences with life-altering results.

Nicole pulled me into each of these stories and didn’t let me go until the story ended. She is a gifted storyteller. And these stories need to be told so that teens and young adults can read real life situations and see how the choices impact the characters. These characters are true to life and are very relatable. This series fills a huge need in the Christian book industry. And Nicole is the person to fill that need because she weaves amazing stories. Parents of tweens and young teens may need to read the backcover copy to verify the content will be age appropriate for their child. High stakes is appropriate for all ages. Essence of Lilly hits on potentially touchy topics.

Disclosure of Material Connection: As an influencer, I received this book free from Barbour and the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
